Getting the file out of the chat app
- WhatsApp on Android. Long-press the voice message and tap Share, then save it or send it to a browser. Voice notes are also in the WhatsApp Voice Notes media folder.
- WhatsApp on iPhone. Long-press the voice message, tap Forward, then the share icon, then Save to Files.
- Telegram Desktop. Right-click the voice message and choose Save As. It saves an .ogg file.
Why voice notes always fit
Opus is built for speech at very low bitrates. A long voice note is usually a few megabytes, far below the 15 MB free cap, so it is uploaded as is. If your browser can't play .opus files, that's fine: the file is decoded on the server.
The limit you're more likely to hit is length: free transcripts show on screen up to 15 minutes and are emailed up to 30.
Voice notes in other languages
The language is detected from the start of the recording, so a voice note in Spanish, German, Turkish, Hindi or French comes back in that language. Nothing to set.

Can I transcribe several voice notes at once?+
No, one file at a time, 3 a day free. Unlimited removes the daily limit.
Is it private?+
The file is held in temporary storage only while it is transcribed and is then deleted. The transcript isn't stored on our side. Still, only upload voice notes you're entitled to share.
What's the difference between .opus and .ogg?+
Mostly the name. Both usually hold Opus audio in an Ogg container. Either one works.
